How Verizon Fios delivers service

Verizon Fios is a fiber-to-the-home network, meaning the fiber connection runs all the way into the residence rather than terminating at a neighborhood node. Fios plans are generally symmetrical or close to symmetrical, which is the practical reason many remote workers, streamers, and households with several simultaneous video calls look at fiber first.

Availability is the limiting factor. The Fios footprint is concentrated in parts of the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic and does not extend nationwide, and even within a covered city there are buildings and blocks the fiber build never reached. In addresses outside the Fios footprint, Verizon may instead offer a fixed wireless home internet product, which is a different service with different speed characteristics.
